Job summary

Durham County Government is seeking a Peer Support Specialist in the Emergency Medical Services department to provide guidance and support to individuals facing substance use, trauma, or mental health challenges. The role focuses on connecting clients to community resources and ensuring continuity of care through collaboration with clinicians, case managers, and other staff.

Requirements include NCCPSS certification, a NC driver's license, and at least two years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED is required.
• Two years of experience in social work, health services, peer counseling, case management or related experience is required.
• Lived experience with Mental Health or Substance Use Disorder and/or treatment is required.
• Must possess NCCPSS certification.
• Must possess a North Carolina driver’s license with a three-year driving history.

Responsibilities

• Respond to overdose calls in Durham County.
• Conduct client outreach and follow-up with clients in the community.
• Meet with clients regularly to provide one-on-one counseling and support.
• Provide harm reduction education and overdose prevention resources.
• Assist clients with linking to wraparound services and resources.
• Maintain required documentation and treatment plans.
