Job summary

Resources for Human Development is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist to join the Recovery Support Team in Durham, NC. The role focuses on peer support, education, and skill-building, using lived experience to foster hope and independence.

You will work primarily in the community (~80%) and help clients set recovery goals while documenting progress and maintaining confidentiality per policy. Training and advancement opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• CPS certification and valid driver’s license required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to pass background checks (Act 33 and State Police).
• Self-identified current/former recipient of mental health or co-occurring services.
• 12 months of paid or volunteer experience within the past 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support, advocacy, recovery education, and skill-building.
• Use lived experience to model recovery and instill hope.
• Facilitate identification of strengths, supports, and resources.
• Document progress and maintain program standards.
• Support community integration activities and recovery goals.
• Conduct regular client meetings and communicate service successes or gaps.
