Job summary

Carteret County Government PORT is hiring a Certified Peer Support Specialist to provide direct services and support for people who use drugs and families affected by overdose. The office is located in Morehead City, NC, with a pay range and full-time benefits.

Responsibilities include coaching, program coordination, and linking clients to healthcare, harm reduction resources and social services. Candidates must hold NC certification and meet pre-employment screening requirements.

Qualifications

• Must possess NC Certified Peer Support Specialist Certification.
• Two-year college degree in counseling, social work, human services or related field preferred.
• Background checks, fingerprinting, drug test, motor vehicle report and education screening required.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching, mentoring and consultation to promote recovery and self-advocacy.
• Develop and deliver overdose awareness and treatment education programs.
• Collaborate with human services, law enforcement and health agencies; maintain resource networks.
• Link participants to wrap-around services and complete referral paperwork.
• Coordinate direct services with program members to community resources.
• Maintain confidential program records and track naloxone distribution and referrals.
• Attend PORT meetings and trainings; comply with ethics and certification requirements.
