Qualifications

• NC Certified Peer Support Specialist certification is required in North Carolina.
• Personal lived experience as a consumer of mental health or substance use services.
• High school diploma or GED is typically required.
• WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) training is beneficial.
• Reliable transportation is frequently necessary for job duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer-based recovery support and individualized guidance to peers with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
• Assist individuals in identifying strengths and goals, promote self-advocacy, and support recovery choices.
• Help clients access and use community resources for housing, employment, education, healthcare, and social support networks.
• Offer crisis intervention and support to promote continuity of care with other healthcare professionals.
• Aid in developing self-help, coping, and social skills, and functional skills like managing finances and healthcare.
• Model recovery values and behaviors to inspire wellness and hope.
• Maintain accurate records and participate in team meetings and collaborations with healthcare professionals.
