Job summary

Peace River Center is hiring a Peer Engagement Specialist to provide peer mentoring and supportive services for individuals with psychiatric disabilities. The role focuses on helping people navigate mental health services, set recovery goals, and participate in self-help activities within a compassionate, person-centered framework.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED,and a Florida Certified Peer Specialist certification (or willingness to obtain within a year).

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.
Has received or is currently receiving mental health service for symptoms of mental illness.
Certification from the State of Florida as a Certified Peer Specialist or willing to complete within one year of hire.
Complete all PRC required trainings.
Strong commitment to rights and supports for persons with severe mental illness.

Responsibilities

Provide peer mentoring and support to individuals with psychiatric disabilities.
Assist participants in navigating mental health services and recovery goals.
Attend scheduled work hours, meetings, and trainings.
Document progress notes and assessments timely.
Engage participants and families in self-help activities and peer advocacy.
Assist with transportation access for participants.
Maintain boundaries and protect participants' rights in treatment.
Develop Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) with participants.
Teach problem-solving and coping strategies to individuals and groups.
