Job summary

The Salvation Army, A Georgia Corporation is seeking a dedicated Peer Support Specialist to assist clients in recovery by providing emotional, informational, instrumental, and affiliation supports within shelter and community programs.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate peer-led groups, support housing and employment goals, and document progress in HMIS. The role emphasizes modeling personal recovery while maintaining professional boundaries and client confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Social Services, Behavioral Sciences, or related field.
• One year progressively responsible experience in substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorders; education may substitute per policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate care with a multi-disciplinary team using CTI methods.
• Attend weekly case and staff meetings.
• Assist clients in setting recovery goals and pursuing self-directed recovery.
• Facilitate peer-led, wellness, and life skills groups; share recovery stories to motivate participants.
• Assist clients with housing, job-search strategies, and interview preparation.
• Document progress notes and maintain HMIS records.
• Engage with clinical staff and prepare required reports.

Education

Associates degree in Social Services or related Behavioral Sciences

1 year experience in substance use/mental health or co-occurring disorders
