Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 for the State Correctional Institution at Somerset. This role provides entry-level casework and counseling to support inmate recovery, while building essential skills in counseling and documentation.

You will lead groups, develop individualized plans, and work closely with treatment teams to promote rehabilitation and long-term success in a structured, 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

• One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling in a social work setting.
• One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth or federal title)
• One year of professional counseling experience with a relevant degree that includes behavioral sciences credits
• Master’s degree with majors in addictions science, psychology, or social work
• Equivalent combination of experience and training with 18 behavioral sciences credits
• Applicants may be within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling and rehabilitation services to inmates in treatment programs
• Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans with inmates
• Lead therapy groups, community meetings, and structured activities
• Maintain accurate treatment documentation and summaries
• Conduct assessments and make recommendations with supervisor guidance
• Participate in meetings with supervisors and treatment teams
