Job summary

BestSelf Behavioral Health is seeking a Peer Specialist to deliver recovery-focused peer support within a team of professionals. The role emphasizes community-based services, crisis support, and helping participants access education, employment, and housing resources.

The ideal candidate has lived experience with mental health and/or substance use treatment, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid NYS driver's license. Evening/weekend availability is often required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Provisional or full peer certification required.
  • 2 years of experience working with children & families preferred.
  • Must demonstrate lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and use basic office tech.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in participating in person-centered, self-directed services to promote recovery.
  • Provide outreach, mentoring, systems navigation and crisis support as needed.
  • Assist individuals with education, employment and social activities.
  • Travel to various locations to engage members and support recovery.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of activities and trainings.
  • Engage individuals about Medicaid changes and connect to services.
  • Coordinate outreach with program staff and partners.
  • Transport consumers to appointments and resources when needed.
