Job summary

Samaritan Village, Inc. is seeking a Peer Specialist to deliver community-based support with a rehabilitation and recovery focus. You will work as part of a team, providing face-to-face services in clients' homes or in community settings, guided by established service protocols.

You will use your lived experience to motivate clients, coordinate with other staff, help with entitlements, and support person-centered recovery plans to promote long-term wellness.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or HSE required.
• Certification as CRPA/CRPA-Provisional or NYCPS/NYCPS-Provisional or CARC/OASAS 30-Hour Training.
• At least two years of work or volunteer experience in a recovery-oriented setting.
• Knowledge of substance use disorder recovery process.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provides in-person individualized support to individuals identified with a mental health diagnosis and/or substance use.
• Serves as a role model, mentor, and advocate to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
• Provides strength-based rehabilitative and recovery-oriented services individually and as part of a team.
• Establish a trusting relationship with the client based on mutuality and unconditional positive regard during outreach and meetings in the community and program settings.
• Assists client with developing and implementing a person-centered recovery plan aligned with the Plan of Care.
• Shares personal experiences to foster hope and recovery.
• Coordinates services through collaboration with staff, providers, and identified family/friends of clients.
• Assists client with entitlements and concrete services; works with client advocates via telephone/written correspondence
