Job summary

The Salvation Army in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a temporary receptionist to support the Social Service Department. You will greet clients, answer calls, determine preliminary eligibility, and set appointments with case workers.

Essential duties include clerical tasks, directing inquiries to appropriate programs, and assisting with paperwork and records while upholding confidentiality and respectful interaction with diverse clients.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of related reception, telephone, or data processing experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; able to access payroll/timekeeping via web systems.

Responsibilities

• Greet all incoming clients/visitors in a friendly, professional manner.

• Perform general clerical duties including photocopying, scanning, filing, and supply management.

**This is a temporary position lasting up to 12 weeks, with a pay rate of $15/hr**

Summary/Primary Purpose:

To answer incoming phone calls, greet incoming clients, donors and assist Social Service Department in determining eligibility and setting appointments for clients with case workers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Greet all incoming clients/visitors in a friendly professional manner.
2. Answer phone calls in pleasant, courteous manner.
3. Responsible for directing assistance needed calls and walk-in clients to the appropriate Family Service Programs and/or outside agencies to meet their needs.
4. Perform general administrative clerical duties to include but not limited to photocopying, scanning, filing, office supply management for supply orders, etc.
5. Provide paperwork and information about Pathway of Hope to incoming clients seeking assistance.
6. Assist office staff with mailings/projects.
7. Assist with maintaining records/ track information of in office programs such as food pantry, general assistances, and other special projects as assigned.
8. Determines preliminary eligibility of clients for internal programs and services, be able to competently fill out documents completely and accurately.
9. Assist with seasonal activities.
10. All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma/GED. Some secondary education preferred. Minimum of 1 year of related experience in reception, telephone work, or data processing preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Qualifications:

1. Ability to work with people of varying backgrounds and cultures with patience and respect.
2. Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives with little supervision.
3. Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. As well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
4. Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
5. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
6. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications:

Must pass all applicable background checks. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.
