Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Receptionist at 165 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. The role supports the Conceirge department, greets patients and visitors, answers calls, and provides information at the lobby desk in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The position is full-time, day shift, 40 hours per week, with a pay range of $17.67–$21.20 per hour. A high school diploma is required and customer service experience is preferred to ensure excellent patient relations.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and visitors at the desk in a courteous manner
• Provides accurate information and directions to patients and visitors

• Ensures visitors and callers receive correct information
• Answers telephone calls promptly and appropriately
• Follows department policy on transferring calls and sharing patient information
• Maintains knowledge of hospital locations and department services
• Communicates effectively with patients of all ages
• Monitors and reports suspicious activity to security
• Assists in training volunteers at the Info desk
• Supports other duties in Reception Services and Security as needed

Job Overview

The Receptionist maintains high standards on a daily basis as they pertain to customer service within the reception department. They are responsible for maintaining patient information services at the lobby reception desk and other designated locations. The Receptionist demonstrates positive guest relations to all patients, staff and visitors.

Essential Functions

• Greets patients and visitors as soon as they approach the desk in a courteous manner
• Offers assistance and provides accurate information and directions
• Exhibits friendly and helpful behavior by anticipating and responding to the needs of patients and visitors
• Exhibits proficiency in computer use
• Ensures that visitors and callers receive accurate information.
• Answers telephone calls promptly and appropriately
• Adheres to department policy regarding transferring calls and disseminating patient information
• Demonstrates telephone courtesy and positive guest relations skills
• Has general knowledge of all department locations throughout the hospital
• Demonstrates good communication and customer service skills as they relate to the patient population served i.e.: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric
• Has knowledge of Hospital Policy regarding courtesy parking
• Has knowledge of Patient privacy policy and procedures
• Checks and assigns vendor passes
• Checks employee ID badges
• Monitors and reports suspicious activity to security
• Assists in the training and supervision of volunteers assigned at the Info desk
• Demonstrates sensitivity and tact in dealing with volunteers
• Assists with any other functions which pertain to the Reception Services and Security department
