The Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving and inspecting incoming shipments, verifying quantities, and ensuring goods are delivered in good condition. This role requires accurately recording incoming shipments, resolving discrepancies with vendors, and coordinating with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure timely processing. The Receiving Clerk also supports inventory control by maintaining accurate records and organizing the received goods for storage or distribution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receiving Shipments:
- Accept and unload deliveries from trucks and other shipments.
- Verify the accuracy of shipment contents by comparing packing slips and purchase orders with the physical items received.
- Inspect received goods for damage or defects and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Be qualified to drive on behalf of Rhoads (preferred).
- Operate forklift and other material handling equipment as required.
- Documentation & Record Keeping:
- Accurately record received goods in the company’s inventory system, ensuring all information is correct.
- Monitor and maintain material certification records.
- Organize and analyze data related to receiving, transfer, and shipment of materials.
- Ensure compliance with storage policies and procedures.
- Create reports and distribute them to internal and external customers.
- Maintain detailed records of all shipments and delivery documents.
- File claims for damaged goods and coordinate returns or replacements.
- Communications:
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors regarding shipment discrepancies and issues.
- Notify relevant departments about shipment arrivals and problems.
- Inspection & Quality Control:
- Examine shipments for correctness and condition.
- Conduct quality control checks to verify specifications and defect-free condition.
- Reject defective or incorrect goods and notify vendors or supervisors.
- Safety & Security:
- Handle incoming shipments according to safety procedures.
- Secure shipments and inventory to prevent loss or damage.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the receiving area.
- Obtain and maintain Navy badging (preferred).
- Inventory & Stock Control:
- Organize received goods for storage, label, and tag as necessary.
- Assist with inventory counts and audits.
- Coordinate with warehouse teams for proper storage and movement of goods.
- Resolve inventory discrepancies and update systems accordingly.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Support warehouse operations, including moving goods and optimizing layout.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks using appropriate equipment.
- Suggest improvements to receiving processes to enhance efficiency.
EDUCATION
- HS Diploma or equivalent required. Additional certifications in logistics or warehouse management are a plus.
EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience in receiving, warehouse operations, or inventory management preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic math skills and proficiency with inventory software, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks (a plus).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn job-specific software.
