Stockroom Receiving Clerk – Community Threads

Job Purpose: A Stockroom Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving, storing, staging, and distributing products. The primary focus is on receiving, sorting, and storing donations in the stockroom area.

About Us: Home of the Sparrow, Inc. is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to providing Hope, Opportunity, and Support to empower women and children as they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Location: Community Threads Thrift store is seeking a part-time, Stockroom Receiving Clerk; 20-25 hours per week (Mon, W, F, and Sat 12-5). Join our team and help make a difference in your community!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to donors and customers by greeting, acknowledging, thanking, and maintaining high standards of service.
  • Process incoming donations efficiently while maintaining quality control.
  • Assist in processing and replenishing merchandise through donation acceptance and floor stock monitoring.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Lead volunteers on tasks as directed, ensuring safe and efficient donation sorting and distribution.
  • Maintain inventory records and communicate effectively with staff regarding storage and retrieval.
  • Transport items to and from the off-site storage facility promptly.
  • Maintain order and report issues in the off-site storage.
  • Alert management about inventory shortages or excesses and reordering needs.
  • Follow recycling program criteria.
  • Communicate customer requests positively and helpfully.
  • Ensure all materials for donors (sign-in sheets, brochures, etc.) are current and replenished as needed.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and practices outlined in the Employee Handbook and Retail Manual.
  • Perform additional duties such as cashiering or opening/closing procedures as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • High School diploma or higher required.
  • Ability to process transactions through the register system.
  • Basic computer skills for electronic information management.
  • Ability to read, count, and write accurately.
  • Effective communication with staff, customers, and donors.
  • Ability to operate store equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to handle merchandise weighing 0-50 pounds safely.
  • Physical activities include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.

Qualifications:

  • Access to all store areas including sales floor, stockroom, and register.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and days as needed.
