Job summary

Thurston County Superior Court seeks an Official Court Reporter to attend, report, and protect the legal record of court proceedings using realtime transcription.

The role requires high-speed transcription, dictionary development for realtime accuracy, and careful handling of complex medical and legal terminology. Remote work may be available; standard hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of courtroom proceedings and related vocabulary.
• Familiarity with court rules and state licensing RCW sections.
• Able to report and transcribe 175 words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Attend and report court proceedings verbatim with realtime equipment.
• Prepare draft transcripts and Verbatim Reports of Proceedings.
• Research to expand the computer dictionary for realtime reporting.
• Index court notes and files with County Clerk.
• Maintain daily log of proceedings with case numbers.
• Transcribe oral decisions as requested by the Judge.
