Job summary

State of Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks a Transportation Engineer 2 in Training to join the Northwest Region Transportation Management Center. Lead daily ITS operations, monitor systems, and coordinate responses to incidents affecting roadways.

You will use ITS tools, analyze data, and mentor staff while ensuring safe, efficient travel across the region. Flexible/hybrid remote work options are available.

Qualifications

• Engineering knowledge and application: apply civil engineering principles to transportation projects.
• Technology and design software proficiency: CAD tools and Microsoft Office suite; CAD platforms like MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Data Analysis: collect, interpret and analyze large data sets to produce reports.
• Technical writing and documentation: produce design docs and supporting materials with accuracy.
• Planning and organizational skills: manage multiple projects and deliverables.
• Problem-Solving and Engineering Judgment: evaluate alternatives and propose safe, effective solutions.

Responsibilities

• Perform ITS System Analysis, including data retrieval and reporting.
• Operate and monitor ITS tools and roadway facilities to respond to incidents.
• Coordinate with management, local agencies, transit, and field crews.
• Monitor and evaluate ITS system operations and traffic data.
• Prepare system performance reports for internal and external customers.
• Oversee daily operations and guide staff monitoring regional traffic.
• Coordinate training and maintain documentation for TMC staff.
• Verify toll rates and system-displayed information for accuracy.
