Job summary

State of Washington is seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 (In Training) in the Northwest Region Transportation Management Center (TMC). The role focuses on real-time ITS operations, incident response, and guidance to staff to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow.

You will lead daily operations, analyze traffic data, and coordinate with agencies and field crews. The position offers a flexible/hybrid remote work arrangement with opportunities for on-the-job growth and professional development.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates strong understanding of civil engineering principles and apply intermediate-level civil engineering practices to transportation-related projects, designs and analyses.
• Proficient in Windows-based systems and software including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook; CAD tools such as MicroStation or AutoCAD for transportation design plans and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Perform ITS System Analysis, including data retrieval, reporting, and optimization.
• Utilize ITS tools and manage roadway facilities to respond to incidents affecting the transportation network.
• Coordinate with management, local agencies, transit, and field crews to ensure timely and appropriate action.
• Monitor and evaluate ITS system operations.
• Prepare detailed system performance reports for internal and external customers.
• Oversee daily operations using current incident management systems and principles.
• Guide staff as they monitor regional traffic.
• Coordinate and deliver training, manage training resources, participate in coordination meetings, and maintain documentation for TMC employees.
