Job summary

Georgia System Operations Corporation seeks a Transmission System Operator to monitor and support real-time operation of the high-voltage transmission system, including facilities up to 500 kV, to help ensure members receive reliable, high-quality power.

This role sits at the center of real-time transmission operations, where situational awareness, sound judgment, and timely decision-making directly support system reliability, member service, and compliance with NERC reliability standards.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Ideally 6+ years in transmission operations or construction, with ~2+ years in a control center.
• Must communicate clearly in real-time operations and make sound decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Monitor real-time transmission system conditions and support reliable operation of the high-voltage system.
• Operate the Energy Control System to detect and avert overloads, damage, and voltage fluctuations.
• Maintain system stability by monitoring weather, telecom, metering, and related data.
• Plan, authorize, and control scheduled operation of system equipment to support reliability and inter-company coordination.
• Write and issue switching orders and clearances for network and non-network devices.
• Perform real-time data quality assurance and initiate corrective actions for timely information.
• Dispatch field resources to support repairs to faulted equipment and guide restoration.
• Direct isolation of system failures and support safe power restoration for members.
• Conduct fault analysis to verify problems are cleared and compliant.
• Represent member and transmission interests with external agencies and partners.
• Prepare presentations and reports to keep leadership informed of trends and impacts.
