Job summary

MVM, Inc. is seeking a part-time Linguist specializing in the Spanish Caribbean dialect to support essential law enforcement functions in Newark, NJ. This role requires listening to live or recorded communications, transcribing materials accurately, and effectively communicating with law enforcement personnel.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, a minimum of one year of translation experience, and excellent verbal and written skills in Spanish. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents.

Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year of translation experience in the required language.
• Familiarity with SMS shorthand, social media terminology, and web chat communications.
• Ability to meet a score of 3 or better on a third-party language assessment in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Listen to live or recorded communications in Spanish and produce verbal and written synopses.
• Communicate pertinent information to the Client (law enforcement personnel) in a timely manner.
• Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned.

Skills

Knowledge of Spanish, Caribbean Dialect colloquialisms

Excellent verbal and written skills in Spanish

Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office

Ability to work under pressure

Type 45 words per minute
