Job summary

American Electric Power seeks an Electric System Operator (Distribution Dispatcher) to coordinate the real-time operation of the electric distribution system, monitor SCADA, respond to outages, and execute switching orders. This role ensures reliability, safety, and efficient service while coordinating with field crews, engineers, and other utility personnel.

The Distribution Control Center role offers hands-on work with advanced grid controls and a clear path for career growth in utility

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any field, OR associate degree in electrical or electronic technology, OR high school diploma with 2 years of technical customer support experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Distribution Dispatcher Assoc. and successful completion of required training.
• Progression path to Distribution Dispatcher with clear milestones.

Responsibilities

• Promote and enforce Safety and Health programs.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Operate company communication equipment reliably.
• Track crew locations and ongoing work on the distribution system.
• Dispatch service personnel for outages and emergencies.
• Authorize energizing and restoration of facilities.
• Maintain outage records and equipment documentation.
