Type One Energy Group in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Real-Time Engineer to support the development, deployment, and operation of our Plasma Control System (PCS). This role enables high-performance, high-availability plasma operation at the core of our stellarator fusion power plant.

The successful candidate will work with the PCS lead scientist and CODAC engineers to design, test, and maintain real-time control software and supporting hardware infrastructure for reliable plasma operation.

Qualifications

• B.S./M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience implementing real-time control systems in production or operational environments.
• Strong expertise in embedded systems and deterministic real-time operating systems (RTOS).
• Deep practical knowledge of concurrent, multi-threaded, multi-processor, and networked computation architectures.
• Mastery of C/C++ development
• Experience implementing digital filters
• Extensive experience implementing continuous integration and automated testing pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Architect a performant, user-centered, high-availability real-time PCS infrastructure.
• Implement PCS functionality (real-time execution and configuration) as defined by the PCS Lead, including control algorithms, finite state machines, digital filtering, computer vision, and ML inference.
• Translate mathematical models into executable real-time code.
