Job summary

Oxford Solutions is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer for a 6–12 month contract in Pittsburgh, PA, focused on embedded C for real-time, safety‑critical control systems in a hybrid work setting.

The ideal candidate has 5–8+ years in embedded C, hardware/software integration, and a proven ability to document software requirements and designs while collaborating with systems, hardware, and testing teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, CS, or related field.
5–8+ years of embedded C software development experience.
Strong knowledge of real-time embedded systems, interrupts, scheduling, memory management, and hardware interfaces.
Experience developing software for safety-critical or highly regulated systems.
Experience writing software requirements and technical documentation.
Familiarity with structured development processes, version control, and configuration management.
Experience with transportation, rail signalling, industrial controls, or similar embedded applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded C software for real-time control systems.
Develop software supporting communications, diagnostics, fault detection, and system monitoring.
Interface with embedded hardware, processors, I/O modules, and communication protocols.
Troubleshoot software issues and optimize performance, reliability, and system functionality.
Develop software requirements, technical specifications, and design documentation.
Collaborate with systems, hardware, testing, and engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.
Follow established software development, configuration management, and quality standards.
