Job summary

Spokane County is seeking an experienced onsite court reporter to perform verbatim stenographic reporting, transcription, and preservation of court proceedings. The role may involve acting as a judicial secretary to a Superior Court Judge and requires maintaining and indexing verbatim records for courts, attorneys, and litigants upon request.

Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) or Certified Court Reporter (CCR) license is required at hire and continued throughout employment; real-time reporting

Qualifications

• Three years of experience or ability to report 200 wpm two-voice testimony for five minutes.
• CCR or CSR license required at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Certification requirements under RCW 18.145.080 must be maintained throughout employment.
• Post-secondary education or court reporter course emphasized in English, law, medical terminology and phonetics (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Report and transcribe verbatim stenographic or CAI records of court proceedings.
• Index and file notes and transcripts; read back portions upon request.
• Efficiently produce transcripts and maintain a detailed index of notes and files.
• Coordinate with attorneys and courts to meet transcript deadlines and filing requirements.
• Assist with court department management and maintaining order in the courtroom.
• Provide realtime reporting to the judge with unedited verbatim records.
• Assist other departments when coverage is needed.
