Job summary

The United States Courts seeks an Official Court Reporter to record testimony verbatim during court sessions and other proceedings and to produce timely transcripts in accordance with Judicial Conference guidelines.

The role requires precision in noting time, attendance, and transcript production, with responsibilities including electronic filing and administrative duties related to transcripts and records.

Qualifications

• Certified Realtime Reporter examination or equivalent preferred.
• Four years of prime court reporter experience in freelance or court settings.
• Ability to report 180 wpm on literacy material, 200 wpm for jury charge, 225 wpm for testimony.

Responsibilities

• Attend and record court sessions verbatim by shorthand or mechanical means.
• Provide transcripts within the time and cost limitations set by the Judicial Conference; electronically file with the Clerk of Court.
• Provide transcripts to the Court upon request, without charge, of all arraignments, pleas, and proceedings in connection with imposition of sentence.
• Certify and file all original steno notes and other records; perform administrative duties such as billing and reporting.
