The Paralegal Team Lead is responsible for leading their assigned department’s paralegals and assisting the Associate Director of Paralegal Operations with day-to-day operations by providing direction and maintaining a high performing paralegal team. In addition to leading the assigned paralegal team, the Paralegal Team Lead is also responsible for assisting the firm’s lawyers with engaging in the delivery of quality, efficient, and accessible legal services relating to the Real Estate practice group.

Responsibilities

  • Manages workflow coordination amongst assigned paralegals, including case/deal staffing, work reassignment. Partners with work allocation managers where/when needed
  • Provides and proactively identifies training opportunities for the paralegal team to ensure appropriate professional development.
  • Assists Associate Director of Paralegal Operations with day-to-day administrative duties related to team members, including scheduling and reviewing/approving bi-weekly timecards and PTO requests
  • Partners with the Associate Director of Paralegal Operations to provide insight into any potential performance issues, employee relations matters, or other areas of concern to be addressed
  • Serves as a mentor to new Paralegals. Participates in onboarding of new paralegal team members
  • In partnership with the Associate Director of Paralegal Operations, schedules and hosts group meetings to provide information on Firm initiatives, new software implementation and guidance to paralegals
  • Performs substantive legal work on behalf of firm clients, as directed by attorney(s)
  • Provides various coordination efforts with respect to the documentation and closing of real estate transactions, including sales, purchases, leases, and mortgage financing
  • Reviews title commitments, title documents and surveys
  • Ensures all pre-closing preparation, and post-closing follow up is properly completed in a timely manner
  • Performs legal research, which may include retrieval of statutes and regulations

  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with legal software programs
  • Familiarity with electronic research tools, and/or basic database skills
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Ability to work off-site at client location(s), various firm offices, and/or other venues for extended periods of time
  • Requires the ability to regularly report to work on the days and times scheduled

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach for other positions.

Travel

Ability to travel up to 10 times per year for extended periods.

Education/Experience/Certifications

  • Two (2) of the following are required: Four (4) year college degree, Paralegal Certificate and/or two (2) years of previous Paralegal experience
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred or attended supervisory/leadership/managerial training courses as defined by current supervisor

Pursuant to pay transparency laws, BCLP is posting a reasonable estimate of a compensation range for this position. At the time of posting, the estimated California, Colorado, Illinois, and New York range is between $105,000 to $115,000. Actual compensation will be influenced by various factors, including but not limited to the level of relevant experience, skill sets, training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, market data, and other job related factors permitted by law. The range is based on a full-time work schedule. Additional compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
