Overview

Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP, a dynamic, mid-sized firm located in the heart of San Francisco's financial district, is seeking a full-time Paralegal to join its Real Estate group.

The current annual salary range for this position is $110k to $160k. The salary offered will be based on a number of factors, including the specific qualifications of the applicant, years of related experience, education, applicable licenses and certifications, and the geographical location from which the applicant will perform the job.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities will focus on commercial real estate transactions from ordering and reviewing title/survey documents, review and summary of leases, participation in closings (ranging from single site to complex multi-site, multi-state transactions), assist with managing due diligence document reviews, preparation and management of closing documents, UCC statements and coordination with title companies. Management of post-closing collection and distribution of transaction materials. Occasional opportunities for participation in zoning and land use projects.

Key Duties May Include:
  • Reviewing and analyzing complex title and survey issues; negotiating revisions and final forms as necessary.
  • Drafts checklists, title and survey summaries/objections/responses, closing instructions and other correspondence.
  • Preparing initial drafts of transaction documents, leases, SNDAs, estoppels loan documents and UCC forms.
  • Coordinating collection of closing signatures and documents and delivery of same to escrow.
  • Preparing entity formations, operating agreements, consents, resolutions and certificates; along with ordering entity documents and good standings.
  • Reviewing and maintaining time lines of key purchase and sale agreement events.
  • Preparing closing binders.
  • Finance-related tasks including loans, modifications, UCC and associated title work.
  • Managing the workflow of multiple projects to insure deadlines are met.
  • Willingness and/or ability to effectively incorporate online tools with traditional practices to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Training of new staff and attorneys.
  • Assists with administrative tasks including updating case files; binders; mailings, scanning, printing and organization of documents.

Knowledge and Abilities Required
  • Must have a strong understanding of legal procedure, legal documents and the functions of various city governmental departments.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to present information and communicate with calm, courtesy and tact, in one-on-one and small group situations, with co-workers, attorneys, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to sort, organize and maintain records and files.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including computer terminal, copy and facsimile machines and telephone.
  • Ability to handle a moderate level of mental effort and strain when working to meet a deadline or performing work on multiple cases.
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors.
  • An established employment record of punctuality and good attendance.
  • Advanced level of ability with MS Outlook, MS Word, and database software.
Experience and Education Required
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • A certificate from an ABA-approved Paralegal training program, or equivalent is required.
  • Paralegals with five or more years of prior commercial real estate experience are preferred.
  • Extensive research and title review experience is required.
Working Conditions

Normal office environment and, as needed, the ability to work from home.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit for long periods of time, come and go from workspace repeatedly throughout the day, use a computer and phone, talk, listen, read and understand documents, and move and lift up to 10 pounds.
