Job summary

Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit real estate developer and property manager serving the City of New York. The Counsel will draft and negotiate real estate agreements, contracts, and procurement documents, and support litigation, regulatory compliance, and Board activities.

Ideal candidates hold a JD, NYS Bar admission, and 1–4 years in transactional real estate or related legal work.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Must be a member of the NYS Bar.
• Experience in transactional real estate work is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate leases, subleases, and other real estate agreements for BNYDC and subsidiaries.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts (construction, consulting, procurement).
• Collaborate with staff, outside counsel, and consultants on litigation matters.
• Prepare for and assist Board of Directors and committees, including material collection and review.
• Ensure regulatory, contractual, and policy compliance; review insurance requirements and certificates.
• Conduct legal research on issues and proposed legislation impacting BNYDC and subsidiaries.
• Advise executives and management on legal issues as they arise; mitigate risks.
