Job summary

Dallas College in Shirley, NY is seeking a part-time Work Study Tutor to support reading, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension for students. You will assist with literacy homework, engage learners in reading activities, and help maintain progress records, reporting to the site supervisor.

Applicants must be an undergraduate student eligible for Federal Work-Study, enrolled in at least 6 credits, and possess strong reading and writing skills.

Qualifications

• Must be an undergraduate student eligible for Federal Work-Study funds.
• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
• U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
• Pass required background checks.
• Strong reading, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with children or in education is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring in reading, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Assist students with literacy homework.
• Engage students in reading activities, games, and discussions.
• Support the classroom teacher or program staff in creating a positive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and tutoring sessions.
• Communicate regularly with the site supervisor regarding student needs and progress.
• Adhere to all site-specific policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
• Participate in required training sessions related to literacy instruction and child development.
• Complete Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
