Job summary

Dallas College seeks a part-time Work Study Tutor to support reading, phonics, vocabulary and comprehension for fellow students. The role is on-site at Dallas College campuses, with a focus on literacy development and engaging activities, and requires enrollment in Federal Work-Study.

You will record progress, communicate with site supervisor, and complete required training. The schedule is flexible, typically up to 19.5 hours weekly, with six-month eligibility for potential hybrid arrangements

Qualifications

• Must be an undergraduate student awarded Federal Work-Study funds through FAFSA.
• Must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by Dallas College.
• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (half-time) during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
• No outstanding institutional balances or registration blocks.
• Must have reliable transportation to off-campus worksites (if applicable).
• Completion of required Dallas College professional development training.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring to students in reading, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Assist students with homework assignments related to literacy.
• Engage students in reading activities, games, and discussions to make learning enjoyable.
• Support the classroom teacher or program staff in creating a positive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and tutoring sessions.
• Communicate regularly with the site supervisor regarding student needs and progress.
• Adhere to all site-specific policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
• Participate in required training sessions related to literacy instruction and child development.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
