Job summary

Dallas College is seeking an undergraduate student eligible for Federal Work-Study to provide reading, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension tutoring on-site. The tutor will support literacy activities, track progress, and collaborate with staff.

Part-time, up to 19.5 hours per week, with potential hybrid arrangements after six months based on job responsibilities and policy. On-campus presence is required for academic positions.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student eligible for Federal Work-Study funding.
• Strong reading, writing, and communication skills.
• Patience, empathy, and genuine interest in working with children.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Background checks as mandated by the host organization.
• Reliable transportation to off-campus worksites (if applicable).
• Enrollment of at least 6 credit hours (half-time) required.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring in reading, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Assist students with homework related to literacy.
• Engage students with reading activities, games, and discussions.
• Support teachers and staff in maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and tutoring sessions.
• Communicate regularly with the site supervisor about student needs and progress.
• Adhere to site policies, confidentiality guidelines, and training requirements.
• Complete required Dallas College PD training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
