Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, small-group reading instruction to students with identified reading needs.
  • Deliver systematic, explicit, and structured literacy instruction using evidence-based practices.
  • Implement the Wilson Reading Program and other appropriate structured literacy interventions.
  • Develop instruction based on individual student needs, IEP goals, present levels of performance, and ongoing assessment data.
  • Provide targeted intervention in phonemic awareness, phonics/decoding, encoding/spelling, word recognition, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and intervention services.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, administrators, and related service providers.
  • Participate in IEP Team meetings and contribute progress-monitoring and instructional information.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive school environment.

About Innovation Academy Charter School

Innovation Academy Charter School (IACS) has an opening for a part-time Reading Specialist for the 2026–2027 school year. Situated in Tyngsboro, MA, near the intersection of Routes 3 and 495, IACS draws a diverse student body from neighboring districts, including Lowell, Dracut, and Chelmsford, as well as Tyngsboro.

Position Overview

The Reading Specialist will provide specialized reading instruction and intervention to students who require additional support in foundational reading skills, decoding, phonics, fluency, spelling, and reading comprehension. The specialist will work collaboratively with special education teachers, classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to support student growth and ensure that instruction aligns with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and identified learning needs.

This is a 0.4–0.6 FTE part-time position, with the schedule determined based on the needs of the school and the selected candidate. Schedule can be flexible if needed and include full or part days.

Key Responsibilities

  • - Familiarity with Massachusetts special education requirements and IEP processes.
