Job summary

The Reading Interventionist position with The Illinois Association of School Administrators provides targeted reading instruction and support to K–8 students identified as below grade level in reading. Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education required; Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, or related field preferred.
• Certification: Valid teaching license; Reading Specialist endorsement or certification preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching experience with demonstrated success in reading instruction and intervention.

Responsibilities

• Provide small group and individualized reading instruction aligned to students’ specific needs.
• Assess students using formal and informal measures to determine reading levels, strengths, and areas of need.
• Analyze data to identify students for intervention and monitor ongoing progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and adjust intervention plans.
• Implement research-based strategies in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Support classroom instruction through modeling and co-teaching literacy strategies.
• Participate in the MTSS process and maintain detailed records of student performance and progress.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for home support.
• Attend professional development sessions to remain current in literacy instruction and intervention strategies.
• Assist in development and implementation of schoolwide literacy initiatives.

Job description

The Reading Interventionist provides targeted reading instruction and support to students in grades K–8 who are identified as performing below grade level in reading. The interventionist collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to design and implement evidence-based reading interventions, monitor student progress, and promote literacy achievement for all learners.

• Provide small group and individualized reading instruction aligned to students’ specific needs.
• Assess students using formal and informal measures to determine reading levels, strengths, and areas of need.
• Analyze data to identify students for intervention and monitor ongoing progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and adjust intervention plans.
• Implement research-based strategies in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Support classroom instruction through modeling and co-teaching literacy strategies.
• Participate in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of student performance and progress.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for home support.
• Attend professional development sessions to remain current in literacy instruction and intervention strategies.
• Assist in the development and implementation of schoolwide literacy initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum for Reading/ELA and/or Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the Reading Interventionist must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. This includes a high level of proficiency in written and oral communication skills. The position requires:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education required; Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, or a related field preferred.
• Certification: Valid teaching license; Reading Specialist endorsement or certification preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, with demonstrated success in reading instruction and intervention.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Deep understanding of the science of reading and developmentally appropriate literacy instruction.
• Strong knowledge of reading assessments and data analysis.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and adjust teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with current literacy programs and instructional technologies.

Working Conditions:

• 10-month position
• Occasional evening Superintendent, Board of Education and/or Community presentations
