Role Description

The Reading Interventionist is a full-time, on-site role based at Hosford Park Elementary School in Gary, IN. This role focuses on supporting students who need targeted reading and literacy interventions, using data-driven strategies and research-based instructional methods. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing students’ reading levels, planning and delivering small-group and one-on-one intervention sessions, and monitoring progress through regular assessments and documentation. The Reading Interventionist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and families to align intervention plans with classroom instruction and school-wide literacy goals. The role also involves maintaining organized records, participating in team meetings, contributing to curriculum planning, and engaging in professional development to stay current with best practices in reading instruction.

Qualifications

• Strong literacy and reading instruction skills, with experience implementing evidence-based interventions.
• Background in education and curriculum development, particularly in elementary literacy programs.
• Coaching skills to support and collaborate with teachers and staff on instructional strategies.
• Clear and professional writing skills for student reports, instructional materials, and family communication.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field; advanced certification in reading or literacy intervention preferred.

• Ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress effectively.
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
