Job summary

Gary Middle School in Gary, Indiana is seeking a Reading Intervention Specialist to provide intensive literacy instruction and close the reading gap for at-risk students.

You will deliver targeted Title I interventions, build strong rapport with students and families, and collaborate with teachers to differentiate content and support success.

Master’s in Reading and Indiana teaching certificate required; on-site position with standard school hours; no remote option.

  • Implements a program of reading intervention in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth for students identified as academically at risk for failure in reading.
  • Delivers supplemental reading instruction to targeted Title I students determined to be most at risk for failure.
  • Establishes effective rapport with Title I students and with parents/guardians and other staff members.
  • Motivates students to develop literacy skills, attitudes towards learning, and the knowledge base needed for a solid foundation in reading.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality; collaborates with other staff as needed to ensure an efficient and effective working environment.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Reading Intervention Specialist will provide high-level, intensive literacy instruction focused on closing the reading achievement gap for students identified as being academically at risk for failure in reading.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implements a program of reading intervention in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth for students identified as academically at risk for failure in reading.
  • Delivers supplemental reading instruction to targeted Title I students determined to be most at risk for failure.
  • Establishes effective rapport with Title I students.
  • Motivates students to develop the literacy skills, attitudes towards learning, and the knowledge base needed for a solid foundation in reading.
  • Establishes a good relationship with parents/guardians and with other staff members.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master's degree in reading with proper endorsements.

CERTIFICATION

Valid Indiana teaching certificate in Reading.
