Job summary

Geneva County Schools seeks a Reading Coach to support literacy development and third-grade readiness. The role involves planning targeted interventions and coaching teachers to improve reading outcomes across classrooms.

The position requires a Master's degree, plus at least 9 graduate hours in reading, and compliance with Alabama background clearance rules. This full-time, on-site role reports to a school administrator and aims to ensure every student reaches literacy milestones by third grade.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Minimum of nine (9) graduate level semester hours of college credit in reading.
• Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive plan to assist/teach struggling readers.
• Provide modeling lessons as coaching tests to assist teachers as they work with struggling readers.
• Participate, on a continuous basis, in professional development reading activities.
• Administer, train, and interpret assessment data for appropriate personnel.
• Develop annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of system goals and priorities.
• Assist in implementing the system’s goals and strategic commitment.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
• Communicate, in understandable terms, individual student progress knowledgeably and responsibly to the student, parents, and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum content.
• Monitor learning activities, providing feedback, and reinforcement to students.
• Provide quality work for students which is focused on meaningful, relevant, and engaging learning experiences.
• Recognize overt indicators of student distress of abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions.
• Access student abilities and modify the program of instruction accordingly.
• Responsible for acquiring professional development opportunities, in the area of reading, for appropriate personnel.
• Responsible for providing information and/or assistance in managing flexible reading groups.
• Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
