Job summary

University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking a Reactor Operator Trainee to learn reactor operations and work toward obtaining a Nuclear Regulatory Commission license. The role requires on-site availability and involves operating the MU Research Reactor under policies ensuring public and environmental safety.

You will adjust reactor controls, respond to abnormal conditions, perform preventive maintenance, and learn procedures for safe operation while progressing toward licensure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a nuclear related field (preferred).
• 5+ years of applicable experience (preferred).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Be available for regular onsite work and operate the MU Research Reactor in accordance with policies and procedures to protect the public and ensure environmental safety.
• Adjust controls to position rods, regulate flux level, reactor period, and coolant temperature per standard procedures.
• Implement emergency procedures when needed and respond to abnormalities with corrective action.
• Perform preventative maintenance and apply lockouts/tagouts for safe repairs.
• Learn procedures to perform tasks for safe reactor operation and progress toward Reactor Operator licensing.
