Job summary

CSPNJ is a mental health nonprofit seeking a full-time Rapid Rehousing Specialist in Essex County. Under supervision, the specialist helps homeless individuals obtain and maintain housing, including HUD-VASH vouchers and income supports.

The role is grant-funded (11/1/26 - 10/31/27) with employment contingent on ongoing funding. Responsibilities include housing search, documentation, landlord communication, and addressing barriers to stability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a mental health-related discipline or a High School Diploma/GED.
• 2+ years of related experience in housing, homelessness, social services, property management, or a related field.
• Knowledge of causes, trends, challenges, and potential solutions related to poverty and homelessness.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Demonstrated judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in challenging situations.
• Knowledge and use of strengths-based and solution-focused practices.
• Ability to engage individuals with empathy, professionalism, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Willingness to share relevant lived experience related to mental health/substance use and homelessness.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and general computer applications.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• Must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Educate individuals and families on housing vouchers and rental assistance programs including eligibility.
• Develop and maintain relationships with landlords, agencies, and partners to expand housing opportunities.
• Assist individuals with housing search, applications, documentation, and communicating with landlords.
• Address barriers to housing stability and support leasing processes.
