Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico invites academically talented graduate students to join the RAMS intern program. Work under a staff mentor within a team of interns nationwide, tackling computational solid mechanics, structural dynamics, and shock physics projects.

You will collaborate daily with experts, develop FEM capabilities, and help validate simulations through experiments. Eligible candidates are pursuing MS/PhD in mechanical, civil, or aerospace engineering, with strong data

Qualifications

  • Earned bachelor's degree or pursuing graduate studies in science, engineering, or math.
  • Currently enrolled full time in spring term or scheduled to graduate in spring.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0.
  • Able to work up to 40 hours per week in the summer.
  • U.S. citizenship required for security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with experts in computational solid mechanics, structural dynamics, shock physics, and environments engineering.
  • Develop and implement computational capabilities for production finite element analysis codes.
  • Simulate complex structures in extreme mechanical environments using FEM tools.
  • Apply data analysis techniques to study mechanical loads and environments.
  • Partner with experimentalists to calibrate and validate simulations.
