Job summary

Watco is hiring a Student Conductor to learn safe railcar switching using locomotive power, under supervision of managers and trainers. The role emphasizes reliability, attention to safety, and strict adherence to procedures, with duties spanning inspections, switching, and record-keeping.

The program includes on-the-job training and progression toward conductor certification, with a schedule of 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 cycle and a starting hourly rate of $20.00.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass training and obtain required certification.
• Valid driver's license and TWIC card required.
• Willingness to obtain locomotive engineer certification after conductor certification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable attendance and follow directions to complete tasks on schedule.
• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
• Assist with inspecting locomotives and equipment and maintain records of cars switched.
• Learn signaling procedures and operate locomotive according to rules and safety policies.
• Communicate clearly with crew via radio to exchange switching information.
• Perform switching operations and help with uncoupling/coupling of cars and moving trains.
