Job summary

BNSF Railway in Barstow, CA offers a Mechanical (Shop Environment) Summer Intern 2027 position. You will support maintenance, troubleshooting, and ongoing projects under experienced mentors in a 24/7 shop setting.

The program includes a two-day Fort Worth orientation and field training at an assigned location, with travel and relocation required for the summer. Successful interns may be hired as full-time Management Trainees after graduation; this is a full-time summer internship with on-call

Qualifications

Legally authorized to work in the United States and 18+ at hire.
Color vision to distinguish red, blue, green, yellow.
Willing to relocate nationwide for the summer internship.
Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Industrial Distribution, Automotive, Business, Technical, or Engineering.
GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Less than three years of professional work experience (excluding internships).
Reliable transportation for duration of internship.

Responsibilities

Maintain locomotives and freight cars across BNSF’s network.
Ensure the safety of the team and on-site personnel.
Manage projects and communicate with stakeholders.
Shadow mechanical supervisors and craft employees; assist in supervising and inspecting maintenance.
Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, clear communication, and adaptability.
