Job summary

Wabtec in Florida seeks an experienced embedded software engineer to design, develop, integrate, test and maintain locomotive control software in C/C++ for LOCOTROL products. You’ll work on RTOS and bare‑metal platforms and collaborate with PMs, systems engineers and test teams.

The role requires a BS in Computer Engineering/CS, 5+ years in embedded software, multi‑threaded programming, and familiarity with protocols (TCP/IP, CAN) and safety standards. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years embedded software in RTOS and bare metal environments.
• Experience with C/C++ and multi-threaded programs.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms and software engineering principles.
• Willing to travel up to 10%.
• Experience with Agile development (Scrum/Kanban).
• Experience with ColdFire, ARM or PowerPC in C/C++.
• Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, RS232/RS422, HDLC, SPI, I2C, CAN.
• Experience with RTOS (Green Hills INTEGRITY).
• Experience with SVN or GIT, SW analysis tools (Klocwork, Understand, PC-Lint), and VectorCAST.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software components, systems and their networks.
• Provide technical mentoring for more junior software engineers as needed.
• Design and implement software for embedded systems from requirements analysis through production and deployment.
• Program in C and C++ all applications, components and interfaces.
• Maintain and enhance software in existing embedded products and systems.
• Ensure development meets product specifications with business units and other engineering teams.
• Design, implement and test software with quality standards in mind.
• Participate in design and code reviews and drive performance improvements.
• Interact with customers and partners in technical discussions throughout development and deployment.
• Develop documentation including SW design, requirements, and architectures.
