Markel Corporation seeks a Director of Underwriting to lead strategic development and execution of underwriting goals across teams. You will drive profitability, growth and retention of new and renewal business, set standards and delegate authority while coaching staff.

Qualifications include 10+ years in underwriting with Railroad or Inland Marine, an undergraduate degree, and strong communication. Travel up to 25% is required; US work authorization is needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10+ years of underwriting experience with at least 5 years in Railroad or Inland Marine.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to influence leadership and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and implement strategic development and execution of underwriting goals.
• Provide leadership and coaching to underwriting teams.
• Ensure profitability, growth and retention of new and renewal business.
• Set underwriting standards and authority; delegate via letters of authority.
• Collaborate with Operations, Marketing, Actuarial, Product Development and Claims.
