Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge in Topeka, KS, to oversee safety-focused work within railroad rights‑of‑way and ensure regulatory compliance.

The CIC will supervise construction, maintenance, and safety programs across freight railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs. Ideal candidates have strong safety mindset, effective communication, and the ability to travel long-term (50–85%).

Qualifications

• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability for long-term travel assignments and deployments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads and transit systems.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure FRA regulations compliance (49 CFR 214).
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities for safety.
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors.
• Document all activities, including briefings and incident reports.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
