Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a Contractor in Charge (CIC) to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads and transit systems in Kansas City, MO.

The CIC will lead safety programs, perform job briefings, and ensure FRA compliance on and near tracks. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, a valid license, and 2+ years in rail maintenance.

Qualifications

• Must have strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Able to travel 50–85% of the time for deployments.
• Valid driver's license; High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in maintenance of way or TY&E.
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging as needed in place of railroad personnel.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure FRA 49 CFR 214 compliance during work near tracks.
• Monitor track conditions, assess train approaches, and coordinate with personnel for safety.
• Communicate with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate train movements and permissions.
• Document activities, including briefings, incident reports, and logs for management and regulators.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
