Job Description

As a member of the DCS team, you will use your skills and expertise to enhance the environment while upholding our company’s values, principles, and reputation. Our Railroad Crossing Technicians are responsible for tasks such as spraying railroad crossings in accordance with contract specifications, always with a strong focus on safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Load truck with water/chemical mixture.
  • Perform minor weed eating using an industrial weed eater and some chainsaw work (with a 16” bar), approximately 25% of the time each day.
  • Pull hose 300-500 feet to spray the full length of the crossing, then retract and roll up the hose. On a typical day, this process is repeated 32 times.
  • Drive truck and spray 8 to 10 railroad crossings per day.
  • Contact MTM for the daily job briefing.
  • Complete necessary paperwork at the end of each day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; higher education is a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • A valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of clean driving history is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, and federal background check to work on railroad property.
  • Ability to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks at a time (hotel accommodations and per-diem provided by DCS).
  • Must be able to perform physical labor for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator License is preferred.
  • Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with 10–12 hour shifts.
  • Occasional weekend or night work may be required.
  • Some travel to offices during breaks for routine maintenance of trucks and equipment.
  • Work hours may fluctuate depending on weather conditions and workload.
  • Spraying work is seasonal and aligns with the regional office's schedule.

Training provided by DCS:

  • Paid training to help employees succeed in their roles, including:
    • Identifying various weeds, grass, and brush species.
    • Understanding which chemicals control specific plant species.
    • Safe operation of application equipment.
    • Various application methods used in the field.
    • Equipment maintenance and care.

Hourly pay rate: $19-20/hour
