Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Conductor in California to move freight safely and efficiently. You’ll receive classroom and on-the-job training, work outdoors in varying conditions, and grow within a dynamic environment that values Safety, Service and Integrity.

The role offers full-time hours, 40+ weekly, with a 24/7 schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Compensation aligns with market norms for railroad conductors in the region.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Pre-employment medical and drug testing may apply.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all railroad safety and operational regulations.
• Follow instructions when working with trainer, mentor, or supervisor.
• Coordinate train or railcar movement using signals or radio instructions.
• Operate track switches to determine train routes.
• Evaluate and complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
• Climb on/off equipment and walk the train/rail yard to support operations.
• Handle hand brakes on railcars to control movement.
• Read and understand rule books and related materials.
• Inspect train and equipment for safety compliance.
• Connect air hoses and electrical components between locomotives/railcars.
• Use basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.
