Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a safety-focused Contractor in Charge (CIC) in Pendleton, OR. You will oversee construction, maintenance, and compliance for freight railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs, ensuring safety and regulatory adherence.

Travel will be extensive (50%–85%), with duties including briefings, FRA compliance, track monitoring, and coordination with dispatchers. Requires 2+ years in railroad operations and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in maintenance of way or TY&E
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company-specific training
• Valid Driver's License and safe driving record

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services when needed in place of railroad personnel
• Conduct job briefings and ensure compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214) during track work
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel clear of active tracks
• Coordinate train movements with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors via radio/phone/electronic systems
• Document all activities, including briefings, incident reports, logs, and forms for management and regulatory agencies
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies
