Job summary

UTLX is seeking 3rd shift Welders to perform welding and repair work on railcars, including tanks, underframes, and related components. You will use air arc cutting torches and stick or wire welding equipment to complete repairs and ensure quality, safety, and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

You will follow procedures, train with PPE, and work as part of a team or independently, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company.
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently.
• Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime.
• Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.
• Ability to understand and follow UTLX operating procedures and policies based on safety and field training.

Responsibilities

• Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
• Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter.
• Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc.
• Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
