Job summary

Road & Rail Services in Roanoke, Indiana, is hiring Railcar Preppers for our unionized operation. This hands-on outdoor role inspects, cleans, and prepares railcars prior to loading, with second shift potential and weekend work until seniority adjusts.

No prior railroad experience required; we provide safety training and opportunities to learn on the job. Reliable, safety‑minded team players who can work outdoors year‑round are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Valid state-issued driver's license.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Willingness to work second shift if assigned.
• Availability to work Saturdays and Sundays until seniority permits a schedule change.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Positive attitude and desire to learn and advance.

Responsibilities

• Inspect railcars for damage, wear, fatigue, and safety concerns.
• Open, secure, and close railcar end doors.
• Remove dirt and contaminants that could damage vehicles.
• Operate backpack blowers, scrapers, and other tools.
• Identify repairs that may be completed by Road & Rail Services personnel.
• Report damaged equipment and unsafe conditions to leadership.
• Keep tools, equipment, railcars, and work areas clean.
• Complete inspections and prep work according to customer requirements.
• Follow safety procedures for company, customer, union, railroad, and industry standards.
• Assist with other operational duties as assigned.
