Job summary

TTX Company in Portland, OR is seeking a Rolling Stock Carman – Railcar Mechanical Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair railcars to meet AAR/FMO/FRA/TTX specifications.

You will perform welding and fabrication up to 30% of your day, rebuild components, and verify function through tests while following safety rules and maintaining a clean workspace. The role requires hands-on mechanical labor and the ability to read blueprints.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem solving.
• Welding and cutting proficiency.
• Mental demands: intermediate decision-making/reasoning and memory.

Responsibilities

• Repair, modify, and upgrade railcars to meet AAR/FMO/FRA/TTX specifications.
• Rebuild key components—bolsters, side frames, hitch heads, boxcar doors.
• Weld and fabricate up to 30% of the day; cut and heat using a torch as required.
• Inspect equipment using blueprints, specifications, and training to find root causes.
• Operate a forklift to move, align, and set components into place safely.
