Job summary

Regional Transportation District (RTD) is seeking an instructional designer to develop training programs for RTD’s light rail and commuter rail operations and maintenance teams, including curricula for rail vehicles and systems.

You will collaborate with subject matter experts, evaluate training effectiveness, and manage projects to ensure safety, compliance, and operational readiness; night/weekend work may be required during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Organizational Development, Education, Instructional Design, or Workforce Development or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of training, curriculum development, or instructional design experience, preferably in rail or transit operations and maintenance.
• Experience designing, developing, and implementing training programs across classroom, e-learning, blended, and simulation-based formats.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days; no DUI/DWI in past 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement engaging learning activities and content for light rail and commuter rail operations and maintenance training programs.
• Identify objectives, performance expectations, and required skills for safe operation and maintenance of rail vehicles.
• Conduct needs assessments and close learning gaps with appropriate learning experiences.
• Create and manage full courses and curriculum, including materials and assessments.
• Develop multimedia content (video, audio, simulations) and test instructional content for clarity and engagement.
• Refine materials to address evolving rail operations and regulatory requirements.
